What matters at this stage

A secure start to learning.

Feel known and included

Warm relationships and clear routines help young learners feel part of the classroom and ready to participate.

Build the foundations

Language, early reading, writing and numeracy develop through stories, practical activities and guided practice.

Grow through doing

Play, movement and creative work give children opportunities to explore, ask questions and learn alongside others.

Learning day by day

Stories, play and early skills.

Guided stories, number work and hands-on activities help learners practise listening, sharing and completing age-appropriate tasks.

Small classes give teachers time to notice where a child needs encouragement and help them take the next step.
